BOOKS

Derry Brabbs is a prolific author and photographic illustrator of over 30 titles. He made his name with the best-selling James Herriot's Yorkshire, before going on to collaborate with Wainwright on a series of seven books.
In the 80's Derry become a respected heritage author in his own right, when his fascination with Medieval architecture and religious iconography was sparked whilst illustrating English Country Churches.
His impressive trilogy of pilgrimage books, capturing Europe's most extraordinary pilgrimage sites, is being completed in October 2020 with Great Pilgrimage Sites of Europe (scroll down for more).
Pilgrimage Trilogy

In recent years Derry's passion has been photographing the many pilgrimage routes and sites of Britain and Europe, at a time when pilgrimage is thriving on a massive scale. In 1990 the cathedral at Santiago de Compostela recorded less than 5000 pilgrims: today that figure is at least 200,000 a year.
Derry's quest to capture the well-trodden trails, awe-inspiring churches and emotive religious festivals has taken him on his own photographic pilgrimages through France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and Britain.
In October he will complete his unprecedented trilogy of books including The Roads to Santiago and Pilgrimage - now translated into several languages - with Great Pilgrimage Sites of Europe.

GREAT PILGRIMAGE SITES OF EUROPE
Derry's latest release is an unsurpassable, visual tour of the greatest pilgrimage sites of Europe, from North to South; East to West . Pilgrimage in Europe is currently thriving on a scale that simply could not have been envisaged just a few decades ago.
Greater numbers of people are now emulating the medieval pilgrims who made their way on foot across Europe to the shrines of martyred apostles in Rome (Peter and Paul) and Santiago de Compostela (James), with millions each year travelling by air, rail, road and foot to world famous sites.
This book covers all the key pilgrimage locations across Europe including Lourdes, Lisieux (France) and Fatima (Portugal), as well the lesser known ones such as La Salette in the French Alps.

This visual journey comprises a blend of the atmospheric pilgrimage churches adorned with sculpture, art and iconography associated not only with the Virgin Mary but also the national saints and Early Christian martyrs revered by both Catholic and Anglican faiths alike. En route the reader will see some of the world’s most impressive examples of medieval art and architecture set amidst historic townscapes or spectacular landscapes.
This volume will serve as both an enticement to take to the road, a treasured aide memoire for those who have visited at least some of these iconic places and a source of comfort for those who would never be able to travel abroad from wherever they live in the world.
